Hello friends!
I’m absolutely thrilled to share the exciting news about our newly expanded size range for the Liesl + Co. Gelato Blouse + Dress pattern!
As I mentioned earlier, this updated size range now starts at size 16 and goes all the way up to size 30. If you want to learn more about how we developed these new sizes and how they compare to our previous 0-20 range, you can check out that post for all the details.
The first pattern I’d like to highlight in this new size range is the Gelato Blouse + Dress, which we launched in the 0-20 size range just a few weeks ago. This dress has a lovely A-line silhouette—neither too flared nor too straight. It fits snugly around the shoulders for a polished, elegant look, yet it still offers enough room in the body to keep you comfortable even on the hottest days. The adorable angled double-welt pockets at the front are both functional and stylish—they're perfect for stashing your hands, keys, or anything else you might need.
For those who prefer a blouse, this pattern also includes a cute peplum detail with buttons at the back.
One of the best parts of this pattern is that it comes with two sleeve options: a straightforward short sleeve and a three-quarter-length sleeve with a ruffled edge for a touch of flair. These sleeves are designed to be interchangeable, so you can mix and match to suit your style. While the Gelato Dress features a simple center-back seam for efficient fabric use, the Gelato Blouse has a button-up back. The buttons aren’t meant to be functional—they’re simply an attractive design element that adds a subtle touch of elegance.
Just like in all our patterns, we’ve included detailed instructions for making a full bust adjustment. I always try to provide pieces for various cup sizes whenever possible, but when that’s not feasible, we guide you step-by-step on how to make the adjustment yourself. Trust me—it’s much easier than you think!
There are countless ways to customize this pattern. For instance, you can remove the back button placket from the blouse and sew it with a center-back seam instead. Alternatively, you could add the button placket to the dress if you prefer. You might also consider swapping the sleeve styles—perhaps adding the 3/4 ruffle sleeve to the dress or sewing the blouse with the short sleeve. Another idea is to drop the ruffle and extend the peplum to create a dress. I could go on forever with ideas like these!
To help you get started, we’ll be hosting a sew-along later this week where we’ll discuss fabric choices and styling tips. Join us for some fun tutorials that will showcase additional techniques for personalizing your Gelato garment.
This pattern works beautifully with a wide array of light- to medium-weight woven fabrics, such as quilting cotton, chambray, voile, lawn, shirting, poplin, broadcloth, linen, rayon, silk shantung or dupioni, wool suiting, and lightweight jacquard. The dress and blouse featured here were made using Japanese double gauze, thanks to our generous friends at Nunoya.
