This week (January 4–8), the overall yarn market in the Southwest textile region experienced a slowdown in price trends. Cotton prices remained relatively stable, while short polyester yarn prices saw a slight upward movement. According to feedback from textile companies in Sichuan and Chongqing, sales of yarn and fabric have generally slowed down recently. However, certain products still show strong demand. For example, pure cotton yarn and fabric continue to maintain good sales potential. High-quality, high-end exported knitting yarns are selling smoothly with firm pricing, while fine weaving yarns have seen an increase in demand.
In the pure cotton fabric segment, special-width bedding fabrics are performing better than regular clothing fabrics. High-density and wide-format gray cloth sales remain steady, with stable pricing. Among polyester yarn and fabric producers, some enterprises report sufficient orders and stable sales. However, others note that the sales potential for polyester yarn and fabric is gradually slowing down.
According to a textile marketing manager, compared to last month, market sentiment has significantly weakened. Some textile mills and single-weaving factories are slowly restocking polyester-cotton fabric. Due to the poor overall condition of yarn and fabric markets, as well as import quotas, textile companies are becoming more cautious when purchasing cotton for replenishment.
Spinning companies have been utilizing thousands of tons of imported cotton quotas. The quality of this cotton is good, and some spinning enterprises are strategically choosing timing and countries of origin to maximize their limited quotas. In the Sichuan and Chongqing markets, spot prices remain stable. Xinjiang 2-grade cotton is priced around 15,500 yuan/ton at the farm gate, and 15,800 yuan/ton at the factory level.
Short polyester yarn prices have risen to about 10,000 yuan/ton, but trading activity remains light. Outside dealers are quoting short polyester at 9,900 yuan/ton, with slightly better turnover. On January 6, 2010, Yizheng Chemical Fiber Market reported that the mainstream price for polyester staple fiber was between 9,800–10,200 yuan/ton. Sinopec’s short polyester was priced at 10,200 yuan/ton, while polyester chips were trading at 9,500–9,600 yuan/ton.
This week, the mainstream price for polyester staple fiber in the Southwest textile market stood at 9,900–10,000 yuan/ton. Overall, the market remains cautious, with fluctuating demand and limited price movements.
