Only half of qualified and qualified ONLY physical and chemical indicators failed

In recent years, a growing number of people in Wenzhou have developed a preference for designer clothing. However, a recent joint quality inspection conducted by the Shui On Business Administration and the Consumer Protection Committee has revealed some alarming findings. The results showed that many well-known brand garments failed to meet quality standards. Among the brands affected were ONLY and ESPRIT, which were found to be non-compliant with key criteria such as "fiber content" and "fastness to dry rubbing" as well as "fastness to wet rubbing." During the on-site inspection of 73 batches of clothing, only half passed the tests. The most concerning issue was mislabeling, with several prominent brands—such as PRADA, ESPRIT, ONLY, and JEXBADON—found to be substandard. The products included a wide range of items like shirts, T-shirts, and jeans. As a result, the industry and commerce authorities have ordered these products to be removed from shelves and are conducting further investigations. According to officials from the quality supervision department, "fiber content" is an essential physical and chemical indicator that reflects both the quality and comfort level of a garment. Meanwhile, "color fastness" refers to how well the fabric retains its color under various conditions, such as washing, rubbing, exposure to sunlight, or contact with sweat. These factors are crucial for determining the overall quality and safety of clothing. Poor fabric fastness not only affects the wearer's experience but can also lead to staining of other garments. The findings have raised concerns among consumers who often believe that higher prices or foreign branding equate to better quality. In response, the industry and commerce departments have issued a consumer warning, urging shoppers to be more cautious when purchasing branded clothing and to prioritize safety and quality over brand name alone. This incident highlights the importance of staying informed and making thoughtful choices when it comes to fashion purchases. It also serves as a reminder that even well-known brands are not always immune to quality issues. Consumers are encouraged to pay attention to product labels, check for certifications, and report any suspicious or unsafe products to the relevant authorities.
