Levis and factory cooperate for water recycling
Llevi strauss has developed a technology that uses 100% recycled water for processing. To date, it has used the new system to accumulate 100,000 sets of women's jeans. It also plans to promote the system to global supplier factories. This set of recycling water recycling processes is part of the company's efforts to reduce its impact on the world's environment, and the technology has also been extended to one of their suppliers in mainland China.
The jeans maker claimed that they set a standard for water recycling in the garment manufacturing industry. So far, they have saved 12 million liters of water and can fill five Olympic-sized swimming pools. "We believe this innovation can help change the way water is used by our suppliers' factories," the company said.
All the water used in the production of levi strauss jeans was treated and before the factory was discharged it was ensured that it complied with the company's global emission standards as well as the factory's local emission standards. On this basis, its partner in mainland China has established a microfiltration system that can recycle all the water used in the process and reuse it effectively instead of introducing new water from the outside.
The company said, "We do not want to stay in the stage where each supplier manufactures 100,000 pieces. When we carry out a water saving plan and succeed in producing the same products but use less water, then we will want to expand the water recycling program. ."
The next step will be to see one of the company's Nicaraguan suppliers realize the use of recycled water for garment production this year, and is currently in discussions with other factories around the world on their cooperation plans.
“Our goal is to extend this technology to all of our products and even beyond our products. We will share the standards of recycling water resources with the major stakeholders in this industry so that other suppliers can follow.” In fact, the company's China-based suppliers have also used this technology to recycle water in collaboration with other jeans brands.
Levi Strauss said that for suppliers, their expertise can save mills thousands of dollars in consulting fees, making them more affordable and more capable of installing the necessary recycling systems.
Recycling water resources not only reduces the manufacturer's water costs, but also minimizes the depletion of this natural resource.
