Yangzhou jade carving is famous for its large jade articles in the Qing court.

In the Qing Dynasty, Yangzhou was located at the intersection of the canal and the Yangtze River. The fishing and salt transportation industry was very developed. The urban and rural economy and the unprecedented prosperity of industry and commerce made the jade carvings of Yangzhou also develop rapidly, especially during the Qianlong period (1736-1798). Emperor Qianlong became an important promoter of the development of Yangzhou jade. During the Qianlong period, Yangzhou was an important production base for the court jade. There was a jade bureau in Yangzhou Jianlong Temple, and the court controlled the liaison to guide and arrange the management of jade production. After the completion of the jade works on the one hand for the court furnishings; on the one hand for the reward of the minister. At the same time as Yangzhou jade entered a heyday, it was especially famous for the large-scale jade articles of the Qing court.

Yangzhou is a region where diversified varieties of jade are produced. Large, medium and small pieces, utensils, figures, animals, flowers and birds are all available. In terms of skill, it is more refined and refined, and it is full of elegance and beauty in the regularity. Smoked, bottles, pots, cups, cans, boxes and other varieties, fine craftsmanship, exquisite and translucent, can best reflect the distinctive local characteristics of Yangzhou jade. His masterpieces include: "White Jade Scorpion Shou Shou Cup", "Jade Jade Empty Eight Treasures Flower Smoked", "Jasper Thunder Grain Flat Pot", "Sapphire Phoenix Bottle" and so on. The "White Jade Ruyi", which was designated by the Qing court as one of the "Yangzhou Eight tributes", is made of Xinjiang Yangzhiyuyu. The jade is white and flawless, and the shape is exquisite and elegant. The "White Jade Sheep", now in the Yangzhou Shuangbo Museum, clearly has the "Qianlong Year System" and was once a tribute.

The jade articles that were tribute to the court also included flat square pots, three-legged stoves, plum bottles, and cans. Yang Boda, the former deputy director of the Palace Museum and a senior jade expert, said: “The large-scale jade mountain is the “excellent” of Yangzhou jade industry in the middle and late Qing Dynasty. It was at the leading position in the country... especially the processing of the rise of Qianlong in the 41st year. The large jade articles weighing thousands of pounds or even tens of kilograms are all sent to Lianghuai Salt Administration. Among them, the more detailed works are: "Dayu Water Control Map", "Akiyama Travel Map", "Huichang Jiu Lao Map" , "Dantai Chunxiao", "Yunlong Yuxi", "Hai Ma" and so on. At present, the six large jade articles weighing up to 10 million kilograms collected by the Palace Museum in Beijing are all from the hands of Yangzhou Yuyu people. This is clearly recorded in the archives of the Qing Dynasty Office.

The "Akiyama Travel Map", which is 130 centimeters high and weighs more than 1,000 kilograms, is the most appreciated by Yulong. In the 31st year of Emperor Qianlong (1766), Xinjiang tribute a large jade to the court. This large jade reminded Qianlong of a landscape painting "Autumn Mountain Travel Map" by Jin Tingbiao, and the purpose was to be made by the court. However, more than 20 jade craftsmen of the court Yu Chong rushed every day, using six months of labor, four nights of night work, only completed 20%, the progress was extremely slow. In desperation, Qianlong ordered the jade to be shipped to Yangzhou for processing.

This is the first time that Yangzhou has tried to crush such a large Yushan. The Lianghuai Salt Administration decided to recruit skilled craftsmen for Yangzhou. After some selection, 3,000 Yangzhou jade craftsmen were eventually recruited. Four years later, after the hard work of the jade craftsmen day and night, the work was finally completed. In 1770, Yushan was transported back to Beijing by waterway. At the first sight of Qianlong, Longxin was happy. The pale yellow freckles on the jade material turned into autumn grass; the crepe lines in the jade material turned into steep cliffs, steep cliffs, and the rugged plank road in the mountains, with the rush of the donkey The team is walking slowly. The composition of the work is clearly structured, the layout is patchy, the autumn is strong, and the artistic conception is high. In the thirty-five years and thirty-nine years of Qianlong, Qianlong also praised poetry twice.

In the following 30 years, Yangzhou has successively produced five masterpieces of more than 10 million pounds. Among them, there is the famous "Dayu Water Control Map" Yushan. The scene is grand, the characters are numerous, the mountains overlap, the engineering is huge, the craft is complicated, and it is amazing. It is no exaggeration to say that at that time, only Yangzhou Yugong can make such "skills"!

In the Qing Dynasty, because the reputation of Yangzhou jade carvings was shocking the whole country, in the history of Chinese jade articles, there was an unprecedented climax of the “Qianlonggong” jade carving, and “Yangzhougong” was the main representative of “Qianlonggong”, which is the history of Yangzhou jade carving. The greatest glory, with epoch-making historical significance.
